My name is Chris Eldridge and I’m a business founder like you. Back in 2005 I started a technology services business, 4impact. I didn’t have any real business experience other than wanting to provide a better service than the competitors in my space. 4impact grew from zero to over 200 people and over $40M in annual revenue.
I thought that a better service would be enough. But it wasn’t.

I learnt a lot of lessons along the way and made a lot of mistakes. I realised that there are some key components in business that are really important, beyond just the products and services of a business. And that is what this website is here for. I want to give you learnings, insights, and tools that will help you move beyond just being a founder of a business, but transitioning to be a true business owner, where the business serves you, and not just you serving the business.

So I founded Business Balance Sheet back in 2015. The content and approach is based on my learning from my experiences at 4impact. For a long time, I was in the business and a key part of the operations. I’d been integral to the growth but I was “owned” by the business. I didn’t know how to get out. I’d hunt around for resources, but they all seemed to focus on running a business and not owning a business. My CEO suggested that we try putting in place an advisory board and that was the start of a transition. We never looked back. It wasn’t the first time, but it was a very powerful time, when the best idea for business improvement didn’t come from me. It changed the business, and this website and associated resources are built off those learnings. And the original idea that changed 4impact for the better wasn’t mine. I think that is pretty cool.
